Ganymede was abducted by Zeus while he was tending sheep at the foot of Mount Ida in Phrygia.
The eagle that abducted him carried him to the abode of the gods on Olympus,
the eagle was according to some a messenger of Zeus and according to others a god transformed into a bird.
When Ganymede reached Olympus, Zeus granted him eternal youth and appointed him the wine bearer of the gods.
